Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva 2021 Cru Collection (9 x 750ml)

$76499 $89999
It’s no secret that we are crazy for the wines of Produttori del Barbaresco. Widely considered the best cooperative in the world, this estate now rivals the finest producers in Piedmont thanks to the brilliant guidance of the recently retired Aldo Vacca. While they are famous for their classic blended Barbaresco, the true pinnacle of their lineup lies in their single vineyard bottling program. Exploring the unique personalities of these nine distinct vineyards is always an intellectual joy, the 2021 Riserva Crus represent an entirely new level of winemaking triumph. The Riserva Cru’s are only made in the best vintage and 2021 is considered this young century’s best.

This exceptional vintage is defined by a rare, consistent excellence across all nine bottlings. Even the traditionally softer Pora possesses a thrilling seriousness and depth this year. To achieve this monumental quality, the winery enforced a strict selection process, resulting in lower yields but unmatched structural integrity. These transparent and unadulterated wines spend 28 days on the skins and 30 months in large French oak casks, resulting in a focused study of how even the most subtle differences in terroir can transform a finished wine.

Because of these smaller yields and the massive buzz surrounding this spectacular vintage, the 2021s are more strictly rationed than ever. To ensure a fair distribution, we are bypassing our online store completely; all purchase requests must go directly to me, who will personally manage allocations.

Given the immense demand, and our special pricing, our initial stock will vanish almost instantly. Should we run out before fulfilling your request, I will place you on a priority waiting list in hopes of securing a secondary allocation in the coming months. Act quickly if you want to stock your cellar with some of Piedmont most heralded wines from what will go down as one of the best vintages in a generation. We’ve made your decision that much easier by taking 15% off of any presale orders.

A limited collection of one 750ml bottle of each of the Cru's that Produttori del Barbaresco produced from the 2021 vintage, including Asili, Montefico, Montestefano, Muncagota, Ovello, Paje, Pora, Rabajà, and Rio Sordo.

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo, 2019

“The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo marries finesse and power. Open-knit aromatics make a strong first impression. Layered and resonant in the glass, with tons of supporting structure, the Rio Sordo is going to need a few years to come into its own. Crushed rose petal, cedar, spice and tobacco lend notable finesse. The 2021 needs time, but it's got the goods. The explosive, aromatic finish is sublime. 96 pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà, 2021
“The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is dark, powerful and explosive. That's the good news. Readers will have to be patient with this brooding, sepia-toned Barbaresco. Dark fruit, graphite, new leather, licorice, scorched earth and gravel add to an impression of muscular gravitas. The 2021 needs a bit of time in the glass to start opening, but when it does, it's magnificent. 97+ pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Riserva Pora, 2021
"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is a pretty tightly wound wine, certainly more so than is typically the case for this Barbaresco, which is often much more engaging in the early going. Dried herbs, tobacco, cedar and earthiness lend notable savory nuance in this decidedly nervy, somber Pora. There's good fruit intensity and plenty of character that makes me want to revisit this in a few months' time 95 pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Riserva Paje, 2021
“The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is deep, dense wine. Strong spice and balsamic notes wrap around a core of dark-toned fruit. A brooding, packed powerhouse, the Pajè needs a number of years to be at its most expressive. This is classic Pajè all way, dialed up to eleven. Time in the glass brings out the wine's complex, dynamic personality and overall breadth. 96 pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Riserva Ovello, 2021
“The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello sizzles with tension right out of the gate. Orange peel, mint, chalk, white pepper and crushed rocks are all finely sketched. Bright and sinewy to the core, the 2021 captures the purest essence of Ovello. It's another stellar wine in this range. The Ovello will appeal most to readers who like tense wines.96 pts.” - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni.

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Muncagota Riserva, 2021
“The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is laced with strong floral and savory notes. Brisk acids and beams of supporting tannin give the 2021 its driving, tense personality. I expect those qualities will be positives for the future, but today the Muncagota is pretty forbidding. Give this time. This is one of the most tense editions of this wine I can remember tasting. 95 pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Montefico Riserva, 2021
"The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is a tense, vibrant wine. Whereas in most vintages the Montefico can be a touch austere, the 2021 has plenty of energy, but also the textural depth to pull it all together. In that sense, the Montefico is a terrific example of the vintage here. Its concentration and persistence are the stuff dreams are made of. Hints of sage, graphite, chalk and mint explode on the back end. 97+ pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva, 2021
"The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is a dense, hulking wine. Powerful and dense to the core, the Montestefano is a big, broad-shouldered wine that is going to need a few years to be at its most expressive. Dark-toned fruit, new leather, spice, menthol are all amplified in this potent Barbaresco. 97 pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco Asili Riserva, 2021
"The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is an alluring beauty that melds together the signatures of this site with the structure of the year at this address. Floral, bright and bursting with energy, the Asili is a star. Blood orange, kirsch, red-toned fruit, cedar, mint and spice rush from the glass. Here, too, readers will have to be patient. This is pure and total sensuality. 98 pts." - (Vinous) Antonio Galloni

More about Produttori del Barbaresco

The Produttori is Barbaresco’s benchmark producer. A huge share of the village’s best farmers, representing virtually all of its best terroirs, bring their fruit to the co-op. It is hard to be admitted to the co-op. There is a waiting list; only a few make it.

Once you are in, the rules are strict. You don't get to hold back any wine for your own labels. This isn't a region where growers ship off their second best to the co-op and put their pride and joy in their own luxury bottles. You have to meet strict quality controls, of course. The Produttori is only devoted to quality-minded farmers with incredible terroir giving their all.

The winemaking is likewise next level. Aldo Vacca, the co-op’s general manager, is one of the wine world’s greatest artists. If you ever have the opportunity to meet and taste with him, take it; he is also one of the wine world’s great communicators.
