A.R. Lenoble Champagne Champagne Extra Brut V.20

$4999

A magnum-aged perpetual reserve is the secret weapon of A.R. Lenoble's Intense cuvee, and the V.20 designation tells you 2020 is the dominant base vintage. The Malassagne family draws on three distinct sites for this blend: Chouilly Grand Cru Chardonnay for tension and mineral lift, Bisseuil Premier Cru Pinot Noir for structure, and Damery Pinot Meunier for fruit and roundness. Roughly half the wine is the 2020 base, the rest pulled from a perpetual reserve started in 2000 and held under cork in magnum. Forty-two months on lees, finished Extra Brut at 3 g/L dosage. Damery-based but punching well above its weight class.

More about A.R. Lenoble

Champagne A.R. Lenoble is a small, family owned and operated estate in the village of Choilly. This is the heart of the Cote de Blancs, which is where the best Chardonnay in Champagne is grown. And Lenoble are definitely Chardonnay specialists.

They do everything in a very "old school" way. Wild yeast fermentation, wooden press, hand riddling and disgorging etc. But true to more modern tastes they use a very low dosage. The result is a bright, mineral and dry Champagne style that accentuates texture and salinity.

Oysters on the half shell, salt-cured anchovies on buttered toast, fried chicken, gougeres, soft-ripened goat cheese, or a platter of charcuterie.

Tasting Profile

Pale gold with fine, persistent bubbles. White pear, apple, acacia blossom, and a touch of brioche on the nose. Dry, energetic, with chalky mineral cut and a long, clean finish.
