The home vineyard, and the densest planting on the farm: fourteen acres on a south-facing Corralitos slope, put in the ground in 1999 across nine separate blocks of Pinot Noir clones at more than 1,300 vines per acre. That density and that exposure are the whole argument here, giving small clusters and deep flavor while the fog off Monterey Bay, less than four miles away, holds the acidity in place. 2023 was one of the coolest and longest growing seasons the Santa Cruz Mountains have seen in years, with picking pushed weeks later than usual, and the wine reflects it: perfumed and red-fruited rather than jammy. Richard and Mary Kay Alfaro traded an artisan bread business for this old apple farm in 1997, and son Ryan now vinifies with a portion of whole clusters, native yeasts and French oak. Transparent, cool-climate Pinot from one of California's chilliest coastal appellations.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

What is reveals is an attractively crunchy layer of pomegranate, fresh cranberry and orange zest. "The 2023 Pinot Noir Alfaro Family Vineyard is the largest single-vineyard bottling, at 12 barrels, sourced from a 14-acre site planted in 1998, primarily with Dijon clones. It was fermented with 25% whole clusters. Opening with aromas of red fruits and baking spices, it’s a textbook example of the region, supplemented with some underbrush-driven complexity. The palate is silky yet substantial, tensile yet round, with a snappy, zesty and pure finish. It's a gorgeous and classic expression of Corralitos Pinot Noir." —Matthew Luczy

Alfaro Family Vineyards is run by husband and wife team Richard Alfaro and Mary Kay. They farm 65 acres of vines at their estate in Corralitos, located within the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation. Currently in production is Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah and Gruner Veltliner.
