BloodRoot Clarksburg Chenin Blanc Heringer Vineyard 2024

California Chenin Blanc taken seriously, from one of the few places in the state where the grape genuinely belongs. Heringer Vineyard sits in Clarksburg, in the Sacramento River Delta, where the river pulls cool air inland every afternoon over deep sedimentary soils — the combination that gives Clarksburg Chenin its unusual pairing of ripe orchard fruit and real acidity. BloodRoot is Noah and Kelly Dorrance's value-driven label, the sibling project to their Reeve winery, built on a straightforward premise: buy from good vineyards and don't overwork the wine. Here that means a portion raised in concrete egg to build texture without flavor, plus time in used barrels, so the fruit and the acid do the talking. Production is small, and it is the kind of white that converts people who think they don't like Chenin. Drink it cool over the next few years.

More about BloodRoot

A secret collaboration between some of California’s most renowned winemakers, Bloodroot was founded with the goal of producing world class wines from some of CA's most revered vineyards at a fraction of what a wine like that usually costs. And therein lies the need for anonymity. The wines these folks make at their own wineries sell for 4 to 5 times as much money and routinely receive 95+ point scores. Collectively, this crew has made the wines at Hirsch, William Selyem, Flowers and Banshee. All that talent and exceptional raw material is crafted into wines that reflect the soul of place they come from and at a price that makes them a no brainer to drink.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast pork with apples, Dungeness crab with drawn butter, fried chicken, or a goat cheese and herb salad. It also handles the sweet-savory register of Thai and Vietnamese cooking well.

Tasting Profile

Yellow apple, quince, citrus zest and a light honeyed, chamomile note. Medium-bodied with a slightly waxy texture from the concrete, bright acidity through the middle, and a dry, energetic finish.
