Varietal Cabernet Franc is a rarity in Napa, where the grape usually disappears into a blend — here it gets the whole bottle, and a cool site to grow in. The fruit comes from Cakebread's Suscol Springs Vineyard in the far south of the valley, where Pacific air keeps the days moderate and rocky, well-draining soils hold back the vine's vigor; that combination preserves Cabernet Franc's floral, herb-tinged side instead of cooking it off. 2022 was a mild, even season across a drought-affected valley, so yields were naturally small and the flavors came in concentrated. The wine spends 17 months in French oak, 57% of it new, custom-toasted for the house. Cakebread has been family-run in Rutherford since Jack and Dolores Cakebread founded it in 1973, and this is one of their more interesting departures from the Cabernet Sauvignon script.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Perfect Pairings

Herb-crusted rack of lamb, grilled portobello, braised short ribs, or duck with figs. The fennel-and-sage note also works with roast pork.

Tasting Profile

Black cherry, red plum and raspberry with violet, fennel seed and dried sage, plus vanilla and cigar box from the oak. Medium to full-bodied, with elegant, fine tannins and moderate acidity. The finish carries baking spice and dried herbs.
