Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes Y d'Yquem 2015

Yquem is known for sweet Sauternes, and this is its dry white, built on Sauvignon Blanc, meant for the dinner table rather than the dessert course. The fruit comes from the same vineyards as Château d'Yquem itself, and only about 10,000 bottles are made. That's a lot of pedigree to pour next to a main course, and that's what makes it fun. You get the house's exacting standards in a bottle you can open with fish on a weeknight, with no milestone required. If you've ever wondered what Yquem does when it isn't making sweet wine, the 2015 is a good place to find out. Serve it chilled but not ice-cold, so the wine has room to open up in the glass.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Seared scallops in brown butter, Dover sole meunière, butter-poached lobster, roast chicken with tarragon, or a fresh goat cheese like Crottin de Chavignol.

Tasting Profile

Expect a dry white Bordeaux with real depth: citrus, white peach and gooseberry, with hints of fresh herbs and a flinty edge. The palate is fuller and more textured than most Sauvignon Blanc (think a richer, rounder Sancerre), balanced by bright, lively acidity, and it finishes long, dry and clean.
