This is Forman Vineyard's second wine: any lot that doesn't meet the tight standards for the Forman Cabernet goes into Grande Roche, and Ric Forman says those lots are rarely far below the top wine. He likens the relationship to Pavillon Rouge and Château Margaux, and that's the appeal here. You get serious estate-grown Napa Cabernet from people who are fussy about it, without paying for the flagship label. The name means "big rock" and comes from the property itself, a gravelly site ringed by huge boulders like a walled clos. The largest vineyard sits on a three-million-year-old riverbed of gravel and sand. Forman calls 2023 a classic Napa year, with a late harvest and fully ripe fruit. This vintage blends 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with 18% Cabernet Franc, fermented with native yeast and bottled at the estate. It can age for a long time, but the producer says it's already very pleasant to drink now.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Perfect Pairings

Grilled ribeye with rosemary and garlic; braised short ribs; rack of lamb with a mustard-herb crust; wild mushroom and beef stroganoff; aged cheddar or Comté.

Tasting Profile

Claret-red in colour, with a deep, briary Cabernet nose. Fully dry and generous at 14.8% alcohol, with moderate acidity. It's built to age, but it's already very pleasant young.
