Colterenzio Saint Magdalener Schiava 2024

St. Magdalener is one of the great northern Italian secrets, a hillside red from steep terraced vineyards just above Bolzano in the Sankt Magdalena hamlet. The blend is mostly Schiava (Vernatsch) rounded out with a splash of Lagrein, and the result is pure summer-red happiness: pale ruby, perfumed with cherry and violets, light on its feet, and finishing soft and easy. Colterenzio ages it briefly in concrete so the fruit stays bright and the wine stays gluggable. Serve it with a light chill and it'll outrun most rosés on a warm afternoon. A charming and food-friendly red that deserves more attention than it gets.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

More about Colterenzio

Colterenzio is a high quality, relatively new co-op in Alto-Adige. We say “new” because it was started in 1960, and 60 years is young in this ancient wine producing region that has always been a moving border between Italian and German speaking people. The founders began this smaller co-op in order to get out from under the constraints of the huge, merchant based industrial co-ops that dominated at the time.
