Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) La Tache Monopole Grand Cru 2021 [NET]

$4,99999

La Tâche is DRC's monopole and the largest of their Grand Crus, historically the most opulent of the domaine's reds. 2021 was the antithesis of recent solar vintages in Burgundy: catastrophic April frost slashed yields nearly in half, and the resulting wines hark back to a more classical, delicate style. The 2021 La Tâche stood out even in a difficult year, a wine that leans into red rather than black fruit, with cool aromatics, whole-cluster herbal lift, and a contemporary classicism that's already remarkably suave. For drinkers who want to feel La Tâche's frame without waiting through a decade of fleshier vintages. Imported by Wilson Daniels.

"This also displays a dazzlingly fresh nose of superbly spicy and wonderfully floral-suffused aromas of mostly red berries, jasmine tea, allspice and the hallmark rose petal scents, all of which is trimmed in sandalwood. The almost painfully intense and strikingly delineated medium weight plus flavors display ample muscle and power along with a firm bead of minerality on the moderately austere, impeccably well-balanced and stunningly long finish. La Tâche is one of Burgundy's most iconic wines and while the 2021 version isn't going to rival its greatest vintages, this is more than respectable and particularly so for the vintage."

"The 2021 La Tâche Grand Cru is another very strong wine in this range. Black tea, herbs, mint, orange peel, spice, star anise and sweet red-toned fruit are all beautifully woven together. Saline underpinnings extend the mid-palate and finish effortlessly. The 2021 is an understated La Tâche that marries intensity with finesse, in the style of the year." —Antonio Galloni

"The disparity between my score in barrel last year and from bottle this year is an illustration of the vagaries of barrel tasting, as the 2021 La Tâche Grand Cru has benefited immeasurably from a second winter of élevage. If the Saint-Vivant is the cousin of the Romanée-Conti, La Tâche this year is the big brother of the Richebourg, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries and plums mingled with Asian spices, rose petals and coniferous forest and framed by a discreet patina of new oak. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, with a broad, textural attack and an ample core of fruit that conceals a serious chassis of tannin, it's long, resonant and intensely perfumed." —William Kelley

"Mid ruby. Complex fruit aroma of both red and black fruits. Vibrant, open, with a joyful spring in its step. Firm, darker fruited and more savoury on the palate, not as joyous as the aroma but still with a deep energy and harmony. Deliciously dry on the finish with a slight woody note – more stems than oak – increasing the freshness, though there is none of the leafiness of the Richebourg here. Finest, polished tannins that are so discreet I almost forgot to mention them. Extreme purity and transparency."

"A recent tasting of the 2021 La Tâche confirms it as among the top wines of the vintage. The colour is a deep, saturated ruby, and hints of violets, spice, and smoke deftly accent the ripe aromas of plum and mulberry fruit. The fruit balances the influence of the cask ageing, giving the wine a seamless integration. The texture is denser than most from this vintage, and the tannins are firm but not astringent - just lush, balanced elegance that places this wine above its peers."

"La Tâche shows its typical darker, denser and meatier character, delivering black cherry, black currant leaf, a hint of licorice and spice flavors. These are allied to a satiny texture underscored by refined tannins, ending with superb length"
