Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) Richebourg Grand Cru 2022 [NET]

$3,89999

After the warm intensity of 2020 and the cool, ethereal 2021, the 2022 Richebourg arrives as something of a synthesis: a warm vintage, yes, but one with remarkably balanced ripeness and no sense of excess. The Richebourg's signature velvety body and voluptuous fruit are all there, and the wine carries its weight with grace — generous on the palate but lifted, fresh, and beautifully proportioned. Already seductive, but built to reward decades of patience.

"A classic, even kaleidoscopic, Richebourg nose is dazzling in its breadth with virtually every spice known to man suffusing the ripe black cherry, exuberantly floral and softly wooded nose. There is notably better midpalate density to the generously portioned and seductively textured yet decidedly powerful flavors that conclude in an even more persistent and beautifully balanced finale. This is however quite structured and while the tannins aren’t exactly chewy, neither are they yet completely integrated. As such, it would be fair to observe that the ’22 Riche is very much constructed for the long haul and while it should be approachable after 15-ish years, full maturity isn’t likely to arrive much before 20 years have passed. Terrific."

"The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru is magnificent. And I say that as someone who at times struggles to connect with this site. Not this year. Sepia-toned, ample and layered, with mind-blowing balance, the 2022 offers up an exotic mélange of black fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, new leather and whole cluster savoriness, all with its usual reserve of power. The 2022 is quite simply one of the best Richebourgs in recent memory. For those who can, don't miss it!" —Antonio Galloni

"The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru has turned out beautifully. It wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet plums and raspberry preserves mingled with notions of pipe tobacco, exotic spices and orange zest and is framed by a deft touch of classy new oak. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it's ample and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit and a lavish, suave profile." —William Kelley

"More impressive now, if possible, than it was from barrel, with more substance, density, and structure, yet it does not lack abundant, nuanced aromas of ripe mulberry and plum fruit. The wine gives an impression of great intensity; there is impressive length and depth of flavour. The domaine has uprooted nearly 0.9ha of the vines in lieu-dit Les Vérroilles, which has increased the concentration of the Richebourg and carried it nearly to the level of the monopoles. 14,526 bottles produced in 2022."

"The latter offers opulence and a silky texture, along with rose, strawberry, cherry, sandalwood and mineral flavors. It is open and translucent, balanced and long, in a word, sexy, despite the structure underneath."
