Domaine Denis Bachelet Cote de Nuits-Villages 2023

$9999

Cote de Nuits-Villages is a smart stepping stone in Denis Bachelet's lineup, sitting above the basic Bourgogne but below the Gevrey crus. From his tiny four-hectare estate, run nearly single-handedly since 1983, it gets the same meticulous, restrained winemaking that has made Bachelet a Gevrey cult name. Expect a touch more structure and depth than the Bourgogne, with the house's signature finesse and perfume. The 2023 drinks well young but will reward a few years in the cellar. Serious red Burgundy without the grand cru ask.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"The 2023 Côte de Nuits Villages will be the final vintage under this name; it will become Fixin Village from the 2024 vintage. This has a clean and precise bouquet: dark cherries once again, touches of violet and iris flower joining the chorus line with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy blackcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, a healthy sprinkling of black pepper and light graphite notes toward the finish. Very fine." —Neal Martin

"The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages is especially good (as of next year, it will become Fixin, but the vineyard won't change). Exhibiting aromas of blackberries, mulberries, licorice and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with excellent concentration and a long finish." —William Kelley

More about Domaine Denis Bachelet

Modest - even humble - Denis Bachelet has been working at the family domaine all his life - his first vintage was in 1982. The farming is meticulous, the vines are ancient and the yields are very low. Every single grape is scrutinized. They have striking purity regardless of appellation and can age for a decade or more.
