Dow's counts the 1994 among its finest Vintage Ports of the second half of the twentieth century, and this 375ml bottle lets two people find out why after dinner without committing to a full bottle. Charles Symington has said that declaring 1994 was one of the quickest decisions of his career. It's easy to see why. A very wet winter refilled the Douro's water reserves after several dry years, spring and summer were ideal, and well-timed September rain helped the grapes finish ripening. The fruit came from the family's two historic estates, Quinta do Bomfim in the Cima Corgo and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira in the Douro Superior, both of which Dow's bought in the 1890s. Three decades on, it's muscular but seductive, still carrying the house's peppery tannins. It's irresistible now and has decades left. It throws a sediment, so stand the bottle upright and decant before pouring.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Tasting Profile

Still a deep, near-opaque crimson. On the nose, fresh, focused blackcurrant and liquorice. Sweet and muscular, with Dow's typical peppery tannins giving it grip.
