Just 90 days in barrel — enough to round the edges off, nowhere near enough to bury the agave, which is exactly the point of a reposado and exactly what most of them get wrong. The Bañuelos family ages this one in new American and French oak, and the result keeps the cooked-agave core out front while picking up vanilla and orange marmalade around it. Nothing is added: the house line is "nothing added but three generations of expertise." It's made at the family's own distillery, Hacienda El Mexicano, in Arandas up in the Jalisco highlands — a place built with terracotta walls tinted with local red clay and open archways instead of doors, so visitors can watch production happen in the open. At 40% ABV it's a sipper, though it makes a serious Paloma if you're in that mood.
