Enfield Wine Co. Fort Ross-Seaview Cabernet Sauvignon Waterhorse Ridge 2023

$6999

This is one of the most unusual Cabernets in California. Waterhorse Ridge sits high in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA on Sonoma's true coast, five miles from the Pacific, in a neighborhood best known for Pinot Noir from sites like Marcassin and Hirsch. The vineyard is dry-farmed, organic, and tiny, and John Lockwood of Enfield treats the fruit with the same restraint he brings to his Chardonnays: native co-fermentation, partial whole cluster, and a light touch on the oak. The result is a Cabernet with the freshness of a cool-climate Pinot and the structure of the variety. A genuine outlier.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Waterhorse Ridge is a delicate interpretation of California Cabernet—decidedly light in body but long on character. Juicy pomegranate, bay leaf, red cherry and sweet pipe tobacco nuances build in the glass, heightened by the inclusion of 5-10% stems. Crunchy, light and delicious, the 2023 is a wine for readers who prefer an old-school, expressive approach to Cabernet." —Billy Norris

More about Enfield Wine Co.

Enfield Wine Co. was founded in 2010 by John Lockwood, who cut his teeth in the winemaking world at some of the most esteemed vineyard sites and with some of the most noted producers in California. John has worked under top winemakers such as David Mahaffey, Ted Lemon, and Ehren Jordan, and most recently he was responsible for farming Failla's Sonoma Coast and Russian River properties.

John's purpose at Enfield is to do his part to help build and foster the next generation of American wine growing. He is sourcing grapes from sites both traditional and experimental, where the exciting possibilities of soil and climate meet the hands of exceptional growers.
