Ermes Pavese Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle 2024

$3699

Ermes Pavese's vineyards in the Valle d’Aosta, planted to the obscure native grape Prié Blanc and grown on ungrafted vines (the elevation is too high for phylloxera to thrive), are the highest in all of Europe. They are wines of pure mountain minerality, filigreed fruit and featherweight structure.

Mountain wines like Pavese’s Blanc de Morgex feels racier and more brisk than other white wines we know. It combines some of our favorite flavors and fragrances: aromas of verdant mountain herbs and tiny white flowers, delicate notes of exotic citrus and stone fruit. Combined with crushed stone minerality and a lithe, svelte body.

More about Ermes Pavese

On any given day, Ermes Pavese really does have a view from the top. His vineyards in the Valle d'Aosta, planted to the obscure native grape Prié Blanc, are the highest in all of Europe. Made mere minutes from the summit of Mont Blanc, Pavese’s are wines of pure mountain minerality, filigreed fruit and featherweight structure.

If you've ever met Signor Pavese, that psychedelic-Keebler-Elves label will make sense to you. He doesn't speak much English, but his manner is all laughter and bubbly glee for life. Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle is a really long name for this tiny DOC tucked into the winding mountain crannies of Valle d'Aosta. Located in the commune of La Ruine, just outside of the town of Morgex, in the high Alps minutes from the summit of Mont Blanc, Ermes boast thes highest elevation Vineyard in continental Europe

This is where he grows his prized ungrafted Prié Blanc, a variety indigenous to the high Alps and found nowhere else on Earth. The cool year round temperature, constant summer sunlight and very low vigor soils produce a wine that could come from no place else.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

Rosenthal Wine Merchant

A stunning wine from the highest vineyard site in Europe on the summit of Mont Blanc. Because these vineyards are so isolated, Pavese has been able to work with the original, pre-phylloxera root stock since that malady never infiltrated this area when it came sweeping through Europe many years ago. Annual production is about 12,000 bottles of this austere, racy, mineral white wine with vivacity and length.
