Brunate is one of Barolo's great crus and Giuseppe Rinaldi is one of its most traditional addresses: long macerations, large old casks, and no interest in making Nebbiolo taste like anything other than itself. The estate still works at a scale that means these bottles never travel far. 2018 gave Barolo of moderate proportions and genuine freshness, the sort of year that shows a cru's shape clearly without vintage muscle getting in the way. From this south-facing La Morra amphitheater that means perfume first and structure second. Decant it at length, or leave it alone for a decade and thank yourself later.

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

Austere, medium in body and classic in feel, with that extra bit of textural resonance that is such a Brunate signature, the 2018 has real potential. Dark cherry, melted road tar, tobacco, spice, menthol, sage and licorice all build in the glass. A true legend in the commune of Barolo, Beppe Rinaldi was the last of the “Last of the Mohicans” – the others were Bartolo Mascarello and Teobaldo Cappellano – who resisted modern trends. Sadly, he died in 2018 at a still young 69, and the estate is now run by his daughters Marta and Carlotta (the winemaker and farmer, respectively), who are extremely worthy successors. Like Bartolo Mascarello, Beppe believed in the magic of blending different sites, but EU labeling laws forced him to make some compromises. They now release a Brunate, which is 85% Brunate and the rest Le Coste, and a “Tre Tine”, which is a blend of their remaining grapes from Le Coste, plus San Lorenzo and Ravera. They also have a range of wines from lesser grapes that are excellent but rarely seen in the United States because they are not imported via regular channels.
