Heitz Cellar Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (375ml)

$3799

Deep ruby-garnet with a clear rim, the fragrance is rife with cassis and red cherry, currant and spice plus a little juniper. The palate is lightweight and the tannins modest, making it drinkable now. A couple of years of bottle age will add depth and detail.

Antonio Galloni

93 points

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is bright, focused and nuanced, with lovely energy and tons of glass. Perfumed floral and spice accents lift the red-toned fruit nicely. This exquisitely beautiful, vivid Cabernet is all class. Like the Chardonnay, the Cabernet Sauvignon is on the lighter side, even for this style. It will be interesting to see if Heitz also pursues a bit more richness for this wine in future vintages."

Decanter

94 points

"Sourced from two vineyards in St Helena, this elegant Cabernet has lovely freshness and energy. Aromas of black and red berries and cherries are dusted with herbs and spice, ahead of a deft palate of lifted black fruit with chalky tannins. Judicious oak use – two years in a combination of new and used, small and large barrels – adds the structure for ageing; and this will certainly continue to develop in bottle."

Wine Enthusiast

92 points

"Deep black-currant and blackberry flavors come with a warm, rounded texture bolstered by fine-grained tannins in this concentrated and mouth-filling wine. Hints of mint and dark chocolate enhance the aroma and continue through the finish."

More about Heitz Cellar

Over three generations, Heitz Wine Cellars has helped define modern-day Napa Valley. Founded in 1961 by the late Joe Heitz and his wife Alice, the winery has built a reputation for producing world-class wines of distinction, including one of Napa’s benchmark Cabernet Sauvignons, the Martha’s Vineyard; a wine that James Laube from Wine Spectator has referred to as one of California’s “grands crus.”

During that 50 year span not much has changed at Heitz. Stylistically the wines have remained true to what made them world famous in the 1970s; powerful and concentrated but balanced with a vibrant nature and structure that allows them to age gracefully for decades. That structure and elegance is a Heitz trademark.
