Jacques-Frederic Mugnier Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2023

$1,64999

Les Amoureuses is the most celebrated Premier Cru in Chambolle-Musigny, sitting just below Le Musigny itself, and many drinkers rate it at Grand Cru quality. Mugnier's version is the essence of why: pure perfume, silk and lift, the floral, finely-grained Chambolle signature dialed up. Production is small and demand is enormous, so this is allocated and rare. Gorgeous young but rewards patience.

"A strikingly elegant nose is comprised by relatively high-toned aromas of violet, rose petal, spice, wet stone and mostly red skinned fruit. The lilting and super-sleek mineral-driven flavors possess superb delineation while displaying stunningly good length on the balanced, dusty and complex finale that is even longer. This isn’t especially dense but it is very classy with its Zen-like balance. If you can find it, buy it." —Allen Meadows

"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has an open bouquet with red berry fruit and touches of brown spice, but it's missing the complexity of some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and well balanced with fine tannins, although it may be missing a little grip. There is a touch of dryness toward the finish. I must admit to being unconvinced by what all intents and purposes comes across as an earlier-drinking Les Amoureuses, particularly when juxtaposed against the far better 2022 at the domaine." —Neal Martin

"Like its stablemates, Mugnier's 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses is so open and expressive that it will be difficult to resit in its youth. Bursting from the glass with notes of raspberries, rose petals, exotic spices and citrus oil, it's medium- to full-bodied, suave and seamless, with beautiful purity of fruit, melting tannins and a broad, sapid finish." —William Kelley
