Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses 2019 [NET]

$69999

Drouhin, for years, was considered one of Burgundy's top negociants. Now they prefer to think of themselves as one of Burgundy's top domaines, and after 35-plus years of organic and biodynamic farming, it would be hard to argue otherwise. The house style is restrained and perfumed, leaning Beaune-elegant. Amoureuses sits next door to Le Musigny and routinely punches at grand cru level. The 2019 is the warm, concentrated, structured reading of the vintage and is still very much a wine for the cellar: highly perfumed, florally expressive (acacia, violet, lavender, rose petal), and built on a chassis that's only beginning to unwind. Decant generously or hide it for a decade.

"A wonderfully elegant, spicy and highly perfumed nose offers up plenty of floral influence in the form of acacia, violet, lavender and rose petal that complements the mostly red berry fruit aromas. The highly seductive medium-bodied flavors brim with minerality on the strikingly long mocha-inflected finish that is supported and shaped by fine, indeed almost delicate, tannins that are sufficiently dense to warrant extended cellaring. This is very classy and possesses an almost Zen-like harmony." —Allen Meadows

More about Joseph Drouhin

Founded in 1880, Drouhin is generally considered to be the top tier of the larger Maisons in Burgundy. But today it has more land ownership than purchase agreements and acts as a large domaine that occasionally purchases fruit and leases land.

Maurice Drouhin began reducing chemical treatments in the vineyards way back in 1957, and for the past 3 decades now the Drouhins have been converting all their vineyards and fruit sources to biodynamic farming. They are considered leaders in biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy and throughout France.
