Kevin et Karine Lauverjat (Moulin des Vrilleres) Sancerre 2025

$3599

Moulin des Vrillères was an actual mill: the Lauverjats ground wheat beside the Belaine long before anyone knew them for wine, and neighbors in Sury-en-Vaux still call the domaine by the mill's name. Kevin came home in 2019, after studying in Beaune, to work alongside his mother Karine across 13 hectares of Sancerre, farmed with grass cover between the rows and seaweed sprays that have cut their chemical mildew treatments by about a third since 2008. The Sauvignon comes off vines averaging around 30 years and ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with nothing put in its way. 2025 was an early, dry year in the Centre-Loire — budbreak in the first week of April, Sauvignon picked from late August — and the wines came in with real purity and stable acidity. Straight-down-the-middle Sancerre from a family that has been farming this ground for generations.

More about

The Lauverjat family has been based in Sancerre for generations. They know how to make mineral-driven Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire. But the mother-son team running the joint (Karine and Kevin) have a few vines in Menetou where they apply their accumulated wisdom: sustainably farming, no herbicides or pesticides, and even seaweed treatments to combat disease. This isn’t just a budget shortcut; it’s a Sancerre family’s take on their neighbor’s terroir, made with the same care and expertise.
