Lancelot-Pienne Champagne Brut Accord Majeur NV ['17 Base]

$5499

Champagne Lancelot-Pienne “Accord Majeur” NV is a beautiful expression of the house’s dedication to the art of blending. This cuvée is composed primarily of 80% Pinot Meunier, with 10% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, all sourced from vines averaging 40-50 years old. The vineyards, located in the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne, thrive on east-facing, clay-limestone terroirs, contributing to the wine’s complexity and finesse.

The winemaking process includes 100% malolactic fermentation, with the wine spending 60 months on the lees before disgorgement, ensuring a rich and creamy texture. The base vintage is predominantly 2017, with the remaining balancing coming from the house’s perpetual reserve, a solera-style system started in 1998 that deepens the wine’s complexity. With a dosage of 5 g/L, the Champagne retains a fresh yet rounded profile.

On the nose, it delivers aromas of quince, dried apricots, and hazelnuts, underpinned by hints of buttery brioche and subtle smokiness. The palate is smooth and creamy, with flavors of candied fruits, toasted nuts, and a touch of rye bread, all complemented by a fine mousse. The finish is long and elegant, with a delicate balance of fruit and savory notes, including a hint of spice.

This is a versatile Champagne that pairs wonderfully with a range of dishes, from creamy cheeses like Comté to roasted white meats and even desserts with light chocolate notes.

"Disgorged in July 2020 with five grams per liter dosage, the NV Brut Accord Majeur is based on the 2014 vintage. Offering up expressive aromas of waxy citrus fruit, pear and nectarine, complemented by hints of freshly baked bread and warm biscuits, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, its generous core of fruit girdled by brisk acids and enlivened by a pillowy mousse. Concluding with a chalky finish, this is drinking brilliantly out of the gates but should also age with grace." —Robert Parker

More about Lancelot-Pienne

A member of the Les Artisans du Champagne, Gilles Lancelot is considered among the best growers in all of Champagne. He hails from a long line of growers; his great grandfather was the Mumms vineyard manager between the wars while also maintaining his own vineyards in Cramant.

The domain didn’t begin bottling their own wine until after WWII under the leadership of his Grandfather. In 1967 His father married Brigitte Pienne which led to the merger with her family's estate and thus Lancelot Pienne was born. Gilles took over in 2005 after ten years working alongside his father. While the Champagne of Lancelot Pienne had always reflected that racy Cramant character, under Gilles leadership the wines have become amgt the most transparent examples of their exceptional terroir.

These exceptional wines came to the attention of their importer, Vintage 59, in 2019 by Jean-Marc Sélèque who’s Champagne we also adore. Like Jean Marc, Gilles farms about 22 acres over 55 plots in the northern sector of the Côte des Blancs, dipping into the Côteaux Sud d’Epernay and the Marne Valley.
