Lanson Champagne Brut Green Label NV

$4999

From the producer: Le Green Bio-Organic is exclusively made from grapes from the Malmaison Estate, our 16-hectare pilot vineyard situated at the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. Based on the observation of vine and weather, it is a real-life testing ground farmed using viticultural methods that are respectful of fauna, flora, soil and people. AB and Demeter certified, it constitutes one of the largest biodynamically-farmed estates in Champagne.

The life of the plants and the soil is enhanced by an increasingly precise work and the encouragement of biodiversity. It demonstrates Maison Lanson’s commitment to sustainable viticulture.

Great wines are born out of a perfect understanding of terroir. Le Green Bio-Organic is a characterful Champagne, clear, pure, with a wonderful vitality.

"Lanson's NV Green Label Brut is the house's first organically--even biodynamically--farmed Champagne and is certified by several European labels, including Ecocert and Agriculture Biologique (AB). The blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Meunier is exclusively sourced from an estate vineyard at Verneuil, in the heart of the Marne Valley. The intensely straw-yellow colored wine shows a nicely clear, fresh and aromatic yet delicate bouquet with flowery, brioche and some nutty aromas of ripe white fruits such as pears and apples along with some lemon notes. The palate is lean, light but intense, dry, fresh and elegant and is provided with ripe, well-textured fruit, good structure and stimulating citrus flavors in the persistent finish. This is a characterful new entry into the Lanson portfolio and indeed more than just greenwashing. It's great as an aperitif and with white fish. Aged for three years, it was disgorged in October 2017 with a dosage of eight grams."

"Well-cut and smoky, this savory Champagne layers a minerally overtone with notes of fresh-cut apple, grapefruit sorbet and spring blossom. Vivid acidity firms the finish. Disgorged March 2018."

"Made from organically grown grapes (hence Green Label), this wine is very much in the crisp Lanson style. The rich character is tensely textured, full of tight minerality as well as green fruits and wonderful final acidity."

More about Lanson

After decades of neglect, Champagne Lanson has succeeded in regaining its place in the consciousness of American Champagne lovers in recent years. Is it the retro labels that look so good at all the hipster wine bars? Is it the remarkably high quality of the Champagnes? Is it because of their efforts to embrace biodynamics and other progressive practices?

We don’t know, but we do know that the wines are great and that we have been able to secure the wines at very good prices.
