What is this wine?
Les Cortis “Teraxe” 2023 is a white wine from the Bugey region of eastern France, at the foot of the Jura mountains. It’s made by winemakers Thomas and Charlotte Finot, who farm their small estate organically and with minimal intervention. “Teraxe” is a blend of Chardonnay, Altesse, and Mondeuse Blanche — classic local varieties — fermented with native yeasts and bottled without fining or filtration.

Why get this wine?
This is one of those quietly thrilling Alpine whites that overdeliver on freshness and texture. Les Cortis has become a favorite among natural wine lovers for their purity, energy, and terroir transparency. “Teraxe” captures that mountain character perfectly — vibrant, mineral, and alive — at a price that’s still remarkably fair for such craftsmanship and limited production.

What does this wine taste like?
Crisp and textural, with notes of pear, citrus, white flowers, and a stony, saline finish. There’s a hint of hazelnut and creaminess from lees contact, balanced by bright Alpine acidity.

When should you drink this wine?
Enjoy it now through 2027. Perfect with freshwater fish, alpine cheeses, or roasted vegetables. Serve lightly chilled; decant briefly if you want to open up its subtle complexity.

If you drive northeast from Lyon towards Switzerland, the hills rise higher and higher until they are full-grown Alps. About halfway to the border you are in the mountain-wine region of Bugey. This is well off the "beaten path." The Jura lies to your north and the southern bits of Burgundy just to your northwest.

It is here that, after a career working for natural wine phenoms (most notably Chablis' Duplessis and Alice and Olivier de Moor), Jeremy Decoster found the mountainous region of Savoie perfect for making airy and elegant wines. He established Les Cortis with his wife Isabelle, and from their inaugural vintage in 2016, the goal is to capture the essence of each vintage and every parcel. All farmed biodynamically, all made in tiny quantities, all done by hand. Depending on the vintage, they may or may not add sulfur, but none of their wines have more than 30mg/L of total SO2.
