Lucian Aviet (Caveau de Bacchus) Trousseau Cuvee Des Geologues Poussot 2018

$7199

The Poussot parcel is one of the named single sites in Caveau de Bacchus's Cuvee des Geologues lineup, the Aviet family's homage to Trousseau, the Jura's deep red grape. From their traditional cellar in Montigny-les-Arsures, this 2018 has had years to develop in bottle. Trousseau here is pale in color but big on personality: red berries and cherry, a wild, earthy spice and a savory, peppery grip. It's the kind of distinctive, low-intervention red that rewards a little curiosity. A genuine taste of the Jura.

"The 2018 Trousseau Cuvée des Geologes Poussot was produced with grapes from a 40-year-old vineyard with a southern exposure on red marl from Trias soil. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak foudre until malolactic fermentation was complete. It's a red with power and finesse, with ripe, juicy fruit and round tannins." —Luis Gutiérrez

More about Lucian Aviet (Caveau de Bacchus)

Lucien Aviet began making wine in the Jura in 1971, establishing himself as a master of the indigenous Trousseau grape. While his son, Vincent, has taken over the day-to-day in recent years, the library releases reveal perfect consistency of quality and style. But it's not just the Trousseau that excites here; everything done at chez Aviet confirms their place as one of the Jura's benchmark producers.
