Pierre Morey Monthelie 2022

$6799

From the producer: Domaine Pierre MOREY cultivates several litlle plots in 6 lieux-dits distributed in the heart of the appellation and all around the village. Some plots have red soils, others are more chalky, with a lot of stones.

Blending of these vineyards (slope and gentle-slope) produces a charming wine which is soft in the mouth from its youth. In addition to the beautiful expression of red fruits, there is a good tannin balance, which suggests that these wines will taste best if aged from 5 to 8 years, in most vintages.

"A very pretty and very pinot nose freely offers up its aromas of red and dark fruit liberally laced with cool earth and spice wisps. There is excellent energy to the delicious and beautifully textured middleweight flavors that offer solid depth and persistence. Lovely and worth checking out. (Drink starting 2027)." —Allen Meadows

"The 2022 Monthélie Rouge has a lifted well-defined bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry quite ripe and fleshy without being overbearing. Just generous. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. It?s extremely elegant with piquant red fruit and a little spice on the finish. What a superb Monthélie from Anne Morey. (Drink between 2024 - 2033)." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

89-91 points

"The 2022 Monthélie opens in the glass with aromas of cherries and cassis framed by a deft touch of sweet new oak. Medium to full-bodied, lively and fleshy, it's succulent and penetrating with a more effortless natural balance than its 2020 predecessor." —Robert Parker

"Mid cherry red. Inviting aroma of small wild red berries. Finely chewy scented on the palate with excellent balance between fruit and structure. Really dry on the finish adding to the mouth-watering finish. Not rich and ripe like some 2022s but long and elegant." —Julia Harding MW

More about Pierre Morey

Pierre Morey is a towering figure in Meursault. Along with his own prime vineyards he was also the winemaker at Domaine Leflaive in the 1980's and early '90's. He was one of the first growers in the region to fully embrace biodynamic farming, converting both Leflaive and his own domaine and reaching full certification by 1997. Now his daughter, Anne Morey, has taken the helm and is continuing on the path he started. She is a very intelligent, passionate and gracious person and her talents in the vineyard and cellar are exceptional.
