Guidalberto comes from Tenuta San Guido, the Bolgheri estate behind Sassicaia that more or less invented the Super Tuscan, and it long ago outgrew the baby-Sassicaia label people hung on it. The 2023 is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot, a slightly bigger Merlot share than the estate's usual 60/40, and the Cabernet was superb. Fifteen months in barrique leaves it polished but lively, with more red fruit than black and enough freshness that the concentration never turns heavy. Give it half an hour in a decanter and it's ready tonight. It will also sit happily for the better part of a decade.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

"The Tenuta San Guido 2023 Guidalberto comes from a challenging vintage, shaped by heat and rain that brought pressure from downy mildew, particularly affecting early-ripening Merlot. Big efforts were made during selection. Aromatically plump and expressive, the wine shows ripe cherry and blackberry preserves layered over a medium- to full-bodied mouthfeel, with primary fruit rounded by sweet notes of cinnamon. Despite the difficulties of the year, there is appealing freshness on the palate with hints of orange peel and blood orange that lift the fruit, giving the wine energy and balance." —Monica Larner
