Terralibera
For decades, Italian wine was divided in two: between “fancy” wine areas, like Barolo or Brunello, where artisans toiled away on world class wines, and the “other” regions that focused on high yields, mechanized farming, and industrial production, with the goal of achieving just enough quality to get a DOC stamp of approval and a slot on a supermarket shelf.Today, we're enjoying a revolution. A new generation of passionate, extremely talented wine growers are taking over those “other” regions, proving that they are just as capable of producing truly world class wines. Someone just had to give it a try.Terralibera is trying with all their might, producing stunning Verdicchio in the seaside region of Le Marche. Their minimal intervention farming goes beyond organic and biodynamic , meaning that they rarely use treatments — even organic ones — and mostly allow other flora to grow in and around the vines, mowing very infrequently. They have two sites, with distinct soil types, and they vinify and bottle them separately. They continue their strictly non-interventionist methods in the cellar with gentle pressing, allowing only the free run juice to ferment, indigenous yeasts, and sulfur only at bottling.
