Thierry Allemand Cornas "C" 2022 [NET]

$38999

The younger vines of Thierry Allemand's granite-rooted Cornas plot yield this elegant expression, crafted by his son Théo. Using 100% whole-cluster fermentation and two to three days of carbonic maceration, the wine shows damson plums, dark cherries, warm spices, and wild herbs on a silky, medium-bodied frame. Fine-grained tannins and incredible purity mark a wine that balances density with transparency—a refined Cornas that rewards its meticulous production.

Robert Parker

"The 2022 Cornas Les Chaillots from Thierry Allemand was crafted by his son Théo using the same method as his father: 100% whole bunches, two to three days of carbon maceration and punching down instead of pumping over. Evoking a pure, delicate and gourmand bouquet of violet, mulberries and dark berries, it's medium to full-bodied, dense and firm with a crystalline, pure texture and an energetic, tense mid-palate framed by somewhat stringy tannins, typical of whole bunches. Concluding with a long, ethereal and floral finish, this is a superb wine." —Yohan Castaing

More about Thierry Allemand

Thierry Allemand is a one-man team making wines of exceptional purity. His name may not go back 100 years in the village, but he did learn to make wine from local legend Robert Michel (who saved Thierry's life once when he fell into a cask of wine…for real!).

Allemand makes only single-vineyard Cornas: Reynard and Chaillot. They are two of the world’s greatest wines. (They are not strictly single-vineyard wines, as sometimes Allemand will put his oldest vine Chaillot in the Reynard, and both wines might borrow a bit from other sites; it varies vintage to vintage.)

Interestingly, Allemand uses very little sulphur and even makes a small amount of zero-sulphur Reynard. However, the wines are exceptionally clean and do not appear to suffer from its absence at all.
