Valravn Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2024

$1999

Valravn — named for the Danish folkloric raven that drinks the blood of fallen warriors — turns its attention here to Pinot Noir, sourced across Sonoma County. The 2024 leans into Sonoma's strengths: ripe red fruit, silky texture, and an accessible, food-friendly profile that doesn't ask too much of you on a weeknight. Not a wine that's trying to be Burgundy. A wine that's trying to be a generous, well-made Sonoma Pinot — and succeeding.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"The 2024 Pinot Noir (Sonoma County) is another fabulous value in this range from Valravn. Crushed flowers, spice and juicy red berry fruit inform this mid-weight, juicy Pinot. All the elements are so well balanced. Hints of cedar and sweet pipe tobacco linger." —Antonio Galloni

More about Valravn

There is just starting to emerge a new class of wine in California that may be the most exciting of recent trends. New wineries with true artisanal spirits are making everyday, affordable wines. One of the best we’ve come across is Valravn.

Why aren’t there more Valravns out there? Probably, it’s because producing wine this good for such a low price is really hard. It takes a force of nature. Someone like proprietor Baron Ziegler, the kind of guy who bought Bordeaux futures when he was 15 and then flipped them for enough profit to make his first real estate purchase. Baron already had several wine projects behind him (he started Banshee for example) before he founded Valravn.
