Alvina Pernot Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2020 [NET]

$24999

Caillerets sits just above the Grand Cru Montrachet, mid-slope on stony, reddish clay-limestone soil. It is the Puligny premier cru that most directly channels Montrachet's power, with the floral lift and chiseled tension of neighboring Pucelles. Alvina Pernot, granddaughter of Paul Pernot and one of the most talked-about young growers in the village, established her micro-domaine and negoce in 2018 with husband Philippe Abadie. Her style is restrained: gentle pressings, indigenous yeasts, used barrels, plenty of lees, very little new oak. The result here is a Puligny of focus and clarity, built more around energy than weight, that wears its premier cru pedigree quietly.

More about Alvina Pernot

Alvina Pernot is a leading light of the Burgundian new wave. There is quite a lot of buzz around these wines. After finally having a chance to taste them, I’m happy to report, the hype is real. This is one of the most exciting new domaines I’ve tried in some time,

Before establishing her eponymous label, Alvina spent a few years working with her grandfather, Paul Pernot. His wines are classical in style, with plenty of richness and power. Alvina, on the other hand, takes a more lifted, open-knit approach. She prefers higher elevation vineyards, earlier pick dates, and longer lees aging. This helps to give her wines their beautifully detailed, extremely fresh, mineral laden texture.

Alvina started her project with access to prime, family parcels (the Pernots own the largest parcel of Folatières, including the entire Clos). In the coming years, she is poised to absorb even more excellent terroirs.

In the glass, the wines are juicy yet tense with a gentle kiss of elegant reduction and tons of high toned mineral crunch. She clearly has a delicate, terroir transparent touch that makes these irresistible.
