Bründlmayer, Ried Langenloiser Loiserberg 1 ÖTW Kamptal DAC Grüner Veltliner, 2023

$4399

Bründlmayer is the standard-bearer of the Kamptal, Austria's great cool-climate region for Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. Ried Loiserberg is a classified 1 ÖTW vineyard—the Austrian equivalent of a Burgundian Premier Cru—and it gives Gruner with real cut and class: stony, peppery, and built around the grape's signature lift of white pepper and citrus. Farming is conscientious and the wines see neutral oak and large casks rather than anything flashy. A textbook example of why top-vineyard Gruner belongs in any serious white-wine conversation.

More about this wine

Variety: Grüner Veltliner

Region: Kamptal

Vineyard: Ried Loiserberg

Soil Type: Loess, Gföhler gneiss, mica schist, and amphibolite

Fermentation & Élevage: Stainless steel and racked into large neutral oak for maturation

Farming - Certified Organic

Ried Loiserberg - Loiserberg is located next to the Vogelsang mountain, but the slope faces south to south-east and is somewhat more sheltered from the wind compared to the Vogelsang mountain. There are mountain vineyards up to 380m above sea level, windy and with temperature extremes. Apart from the loess deposits, which become stronger towards the south-east, and the occasional marble lenses, predominantly lime-free rocky brown earths form over silicate crystalline rocks such as paragneiss (Gföhler gneiss), mica schist and amphibolite (Loiserberg zoisite-amphibolite), which alternate narrowly.
