Bruno Clavelier Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes 2014

$22499

Les Beaux Monts is one of the great Premier Crus of Vosne-Romanee, sitting on the upper slope right next to Echezeaux and capable, in the right hands, of Grand Cru weight and complexity. Bruno Clavelier's hands very much qualify: biodynamic farming, old vines, and a deft, low-intervention cellar style that puts terroir at the center. The 2014 vintage is a classical, transparent year in the Cote de Nuits—pure, energetic, and built for time. A decade on, this is entering a beautiful drinking window. Reach for an occasion that deserves it.

"A cool but highly expressive nose displays elegant notes of wild red berries, lavender, spice and again soft sandalwood hints. There is a bit more volume if perhaps not quite the refinement of the Brûlées to the mid-palate that coats the palate with dry extract that also serves to buffer the slightly firmer tannic spine on the muscular and firm finish. Excellent juice and this too is worth your attention."

"Moderately saturated bright red. Aromas of pastry, sweet spices and cherry pit. Then rich, deep and sweet in the mouth but less tangy, delineated and showy today than the Aux Brûlées. Shows a more viscous texture but this is more backward at this stage and not showing quite the crushed red fruit éclat of the Brûlées. But this is longer." —Stephen Tanzer

"The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes has a tightly knit bouquet with blackcurrant pastilles, iris and dark cherries. The palate is medium-bodied with good structure; it is fleshy in the mouth with pure red cherry and raspberry coulis notes, confit-like, nicely balanced with a smooth and quite seductive finish that lingers in the mouth. What a beautiful Vosne-Romanée -- one of Bruno's best this year." —Neal Martin
