Catherine & Pierre Breton Bourgueil Clos Senechal 2021

$4499

Excellent terroir of hillside from clay-limestone soils. This terroir gives, with the patience of 2 years’ aging, silky tannins and fruit as precise and fine as lace.

Aromatic style: After two years in bottle this terroir gives silky tannins, and a fruit as precise as lace!

Definition of Clos Sénéchal: The slopes which connect the terrace with the tray and which establish the hillside, carry vineyards which benefit from southern exposure.

More about Catherine & Pierre Breton

Pierre Breton was destined to make Cabernet Franc. ‘Breton’ is an old name for the variety, and the Bretons have been growing it for over a century. What’s more, Bourgueil ‘Perrieres’, one of Cabernet Franc’s greatest vineyards, has belonged to the Bretons since the 1800s.

Catherine Breton, too, was also destined to be a winemaker (the profession runs at least 5 generations deep in her family), though she's not from Bourgueil, but Vouvray. Together, the couple became one of the first early iconic natural wine producers, experimenting with biodynamic practices and zero-sulfur cuvées since the early-mid 90s.

Over the last 35 or so years since they began, the Bretons have expanded their portfolio. More recent additions include a range of easy-drinking, juicy reds and steely, mineral Chenin Blancs (from Catherine’s Vouvray plots).
