Pierre Breton was destined to make Cabernet Franc. ‘Breton’ is an old name for the variety, and the Bretons have been growing it for over a century. What’s more, Bourgueil ‘Perrieres’, one of Cabernet Franc’s greatest vineyards, has belonged to the Bretons since the 1800s.Catherine Breton, too, was also destined to be a winemaker (the profession runs at least 5 generations deep in her family), though she's not from Bourgueil, but Vouvray. Together, the couple became one of the first early iconic natural wine producers, experimenting with biodynamic practices and zero-sulfur cuvées since the early-mid 90s.Over the last 35 or so years since they began, the Bretons have expanded their portfolio. More recent additions include a range of easy-drinking, juicy reds and steely, mineral Chenin Blancs (from Catherine’s Vouvray plots).
