Collosorbo is a rare Brunello producer with excellent holdings in three of the region’s distinct terroirs: red clay, gray ‘galestro,’ and sandy limestone. Each contributes its own unique characteristics, making the final wine a supremely balanced and approachable Brunello, not unlike a classic Barolo blended from various communes in the Langhe (think Bartolo Mascarello). Fastidious farming, hand-harvesting, and strict sorting ensure perfectly healthy fruit, and no manipulations are employed in the cellar. Long, indigenous yeast ferments and aging in neutral 12 to 15 hl Slavonian and some French oak barrels preserve the purity and terroir expression. As an added bonus, Collosorbo is entirely run by females! It was founded by Giovanna Ciacci who continues to run the estate with her two daughters, one in charge of wine-making and the other in charge of farming.
