Collosorbo Brunello di Montalcino 2021

$6699

Made by three women—founder Giovanna Ciacci and her daughters Laura and Lucia—from organically farmed Sangiovese with long skin contact. The 2021 shows plum, lavender, eucalyptus, and dark spice, with a pure, mineral palate and a violet-perfumed finish. This is never a powerful wine, but one of refined balance and clarity—Brunello that tastes like place rather than extraction. Arriving March 2026.

Antonio Galloni

"Hints of mint lift dank mineral earth, flowery underbrush and crushed strawberries as the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino evolves in the glass. It is delicate, nearly weightless, with bright red berry fruits and mineral tones riding a wave of brisk acidity. Inner rose tones linger through the long and spicy finale as edgy tannins resonate throughout." —Eric Guido

"Maturing mid ruby with orange tinges. Very backward and closed on the nose. Compact, polished and finely balanced with real concentration but for the moment monolithic and closed."

Kerin O'Keefe

"Made with organically farmed grapes, the Collosorbo 2021 Brunello has aromas of plum, lavender, eucalyptus and dark spice. Bold and brawny, the palate offers dried cherry, prune, licorice and bitter orange before closing on the warmth of evident alcohol. Taut, close-grained tannins provide enveloping support." —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Collosorbo

Collosorbo is a rare Brunello producer with excellent holdings in three of the region’s distinct terroirs: red clay, gray ‘galestro,’ and sandy limestone. Each contributes its own unique characteristics, making the final wine a supremely balanced and approachable Brunello, not unlike a classic Barolo blended from various communes in the Langhe (think Bartolo Mascarello).

Fastidious farming, hand-harvesting, and strict sorting ensure perfectly healthy fruit, and no manipulations are employed in the cellar. Long, indigenous yeast ferments and aging in neutral 12 to 15 hl Slavonian and some French oak barrels preserve the purity and terroir expression.

As an added bonus, Collosorbo is entirely run by females! It was founded by Giovanna Ciacci who continues to run the estate with her two daughters, one in charge of wine-making and the other in charge of farming.
