Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) La Tache Monopole Grand Cru 2010 [NET]

$6,89999

La Tâche is DRC's monopole, the largest of their Grand Crus and historically the most opulent and powerfully built of the domaine's reds. 2010 was a classically styled vintage in Burgundy, defined by fresh acidity, transparency, and elegant ripeness without excess; it is now widely considered one of the great recent classics. This is a La Tâche of refinement rather than overt muscle, with silken supporting tannins, magnetic red and blue fruit, and the kind of structural completeness that ages on a 25-year arc. Approaching its first prime drinking window now and built to coast for decades. Imported by Wilson Daniels.

"An ultra-pure, cool and remarkably elegant mix of wonderfully spicy, red and blue pinot fruit, red currant and wild red berries that are openly floral in character. The overtly stony flavors are shaped by notably firm yet extremely fine tannins and while there is ample power and vibrancy, the palate feel is all silk and satin. To be sure, this is a big wine with impressive concentration but 2010 is a vintage for LT of refinement and polish if not exactly finesse. Even so, it's still going to require some 20 to 25 years of cellar time before it reaches its full majority but when it does, it will be considered one of the all-time great vintages for this incredibly storied wine." —Allen Meadows

"The 2010 La Tâche Grand Cru is an adolescent. It's obviously no longer a young wine, but it is also not mature, either. For my palate, the 2010 is in a place where I would prefer to cellar it for a few more years. The aromatics are lovely, with plenty of the nuance and complexity I expect to see in a 15-year-old La Tâche, but the wine's balance is a bit awkward today." —Antonio Galloni

"NB vintage. Very rich and haunting on the nose with truffles and violets. Then admirably firm on the palate. But so much stuffing! Liqueur red burgundy… Great energy. Great muscularity. Wonderful silkiness almost disguises those tannins. Enormous persistence without heaviness. Neat finish. Thoroughly energetic. Absolutely heavenly. Bravo!"

"Beginning to mature now, the 2010 La Tâche has some lovely notes of forest floor and a savoury, gamey appeal that is classic Burgundy. The nose still displays plenty of ripe currant fruit, but it is coloured with notes of wood smoke, cedar, and leather and underpinned with a salty mineral note. The texture is very fine and precise; there is more freshness and less opulence than the 2015 vintage, yet it still has reserves of power. This wine is starting to drink well now, but it will easily last another 25 years if not more."

Wine Spectator

"There's a unique dark, brooding side to this red. Black cherry, licorice, sandalwood, tobacco and woodsy spice notes mingle with dense tannins on the powerful frame, leading to a superb aftertaste of sweet fruit, spice and mineral."
