Michel Niellon spent decades making some of Chassagne's most exact and reverently sourced premier cru whites; the domaine now carries on under his son-in-law Michel Coutoux (joined by Michel Niellon's grandson Mathieu Bresson). Clos Saint-Jean sits on the upper hillside west of the village, on limestone-rich soils beside an old quarry — a cooler, more vertical site that has long given the domaine's most precise wine. The 2020 vintage was warm and complete, ripening fruit early and producing whites of ample fleshy core balanced by tangy acids. Pear, freshly baked bread, orange oil and beeswax frame a wine that is satisfying now but built to evolve. Niellon at its most classical.

Returns & Exchanges

We stand behind every bottle we sell.

  • If the wine is less than 10 years old and it is corked, you may return it to us for a full refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. You must show us proof of purchase. We understand that you may not live near a shop and that it is difficult to ship open bottles of wine to us, so if there's any problem feel free to Contact Us and we'll work it out.
  • For wines older than 10 years, the consumer bears the risk of a faulty cork, but we accept returns of older bottles if the wine is faulty as a result of improper storage. Please come by the store or Contact Us if there is a problem.
  • We may, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law, accept returns of unopened wines within 30 days of purchase if they were properly stored by the purchaser, subject to a 15% re-stocking fee.

"A notably more restrained nose is both cool and pure with its combination of spiced pear, Granny Smith apples, lemon-lime and petrol aromas. There is impressive mid-palate density to the unusually powerful medium-bodied flavors that also conclude in a lemon-tinged and beautifully persistent finish. If I'm being picky, this bone-dry effort could use a bit more depth, but that should reasonably occur if allowed at least a few years of cellaring."
