Domaine Vincent & Francois Jouard Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumees Clos de la Truffiere Vieilles Vignes 2017 [NET]

$13999

Brothers Vincent and Francois Jouard took over their family estate in 1990, the sixth generation to farm vines in Chassagne-Montrachet. They work 11 hectares sustainably, by hand, with all their domaine bottlings drawn from vines over 50 years old. Clos de la Truffiere is their walled parcel within Les Chaumees 1er Cru, a 0.71-hectare plot halfway up the slope on shallow red earth, facing east opposite the hill of Montrachet. The 2017 is now in a beautiful place: classic Chassagne with crisp yellow apple, pear, Meyer lemon, pastry cream, and that famous Chaumees mineral cut. A serious old-vine 1er Cru drinking right in the window.

"The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière is showing beautifully from bottle, wafting from the glass with scents of crisp yellow apple, pear, Meyer lemon, pastry cream and beeswax. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and succulent, with a fleshy, elegantly textural attack, excellent depth at the core, mouthwatering acids and a precise finish. There's a charm and tenderness to this Chassagne, despite its recent bottling, that make it utterly delicious—and exemplary of the 2017 white Burgundy vintage's merits." —William Kelley

More about Domaine Vincent & Francois Jouard

Domaine Vincent & Francois Jouard is a small estate – 11 hectares – but they only keep grapes for their wine production harvested from vines that are at least 50 years old. The brothers took over the family estate that dates to 1820 in the early 1990s. Their "recipe" for old school Chassagne is very straight forward. Vincent is in the vineyards and tills regularly in order to fastidiously avoid herbicides and other chemicals. In the cellar François uses a light touch and no more than 1/3 new barrels for elevage. The Jouard's are blessed with prime parcels and old vines, adding to the excellent value of their wines.
