Antonio Galloni

92 points

"Exotic aromas of dried fruit, lime, baconfat and smoky oak. Thick and very concentrated, with a sweetness leavened by harmonious acidity. Conveys an impression of almost chewy extract. Finishes quite dry and uncompromising, with a slight phenolic character and notes of nutskin and red berries. The largest-scaled of these chardonnays, but not yet as harmonious as the last two vineyard-designated bottlings." —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

96 points

"The 1995 Chardonnay Cuvee Cathleen, a selection made from the finest barrels, is spectacular. Given the overall thrilling quality at this winery, one can imagine just how extraordinary this wine is. The Cuvee Cathleen possesses a light golden color, followed by a ripe, honeyed, leesy nose filled with fruit, roasted nuts, minerals, and spice. Extremely full-bodied, with super richness, purity, and multiple dimensions, this fabulously rich, explosively fruity, ripe, Burgundian-styled Chardonnay will benefit from 1-2 years of cellaring, and keep for 7-8 years." —Robert M. Parker, Jr.

More about Kistler

Kistler Vineyards is a family owned estate, founded in 1978. They produce both of the main Burgundy varietals, but are most known for their various heritage Chardonnay bottlings from throughout Sonoma county. The wines are produced using native yeasts, French oak, and are unfined and unfiltered.

Kistler has a passionate focus on a unique heritage Californian clonal selection, today planted across fifteen vineyards in Carneros, Sonoma Valley, Russian River Valley, and the Sonoma Coast. Their wines, across the range and for many years now, have been exactly what we want to drink when we want elegant, complex, definitive California Chardonnay.

Longtime winemaker Jason Kesner harvests fruit in the dark, taking advantage of Sonoma's chilly, crisp nights when these perfect clusters are in their most pristine state. Chardonnays are fermented in subterranean barrel cellar with native yeast. The throughline is magnificent texture and formidable, lingering intensity.
