What is this wine?
Scions of Sinai is the project of Bernhard Bredell, who farms old bush vines on the sandy granitic soils of the Lower Helderberg in Stellenbosch. His focus is low-intervention, site-specific wines that show freshness and finesse. Atlantikas is his lightest, most coastal expression of Pinotage—sourced from vineyards just a few kilometers from False Bay, where Atlantic breezes temper the heat and bring bright aromatics. The 2024 vintage was mild and balanced, producing wines of purity and lift.
Why get this wine?
Forget the heavy, oaky Pinotage of old—Atlantikas is bright, juicy, and feather-light, closer in spirit to Beaujolais than to traditional South African reds. It’s a playful, chillable expression of a grape that’s being completely reimagined by new-wave winemakers like Bredell. For adventurous drinkers and natural wine fans, it’s a must-try.
What does this wine taste like?
Crunchy red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate with hints of fynbos herbs and white pepper. Light-bodied, fresh, and vibrant, with soft tannins and a saline finish.
When should you drink this wine?
Drink now through 2026. Best served slightly chilled. Perfect with charcuterie, pizza, grilled fish, or summer picnics.
