Snowden Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard 2021

$9499

Elegantly balanced with genuine energy, this estate Cabernet draws from volcanic rhyolite soils on a plateau 800-850 feet above the Napa Valley floor. Winemaker Diana Snowden Seysses crafted a wine of plums, black cherries, blood orange, and graphite—fermented with native yeasts and aged 19 months in French oak. Only 332 cases produced, this is refined California Cabernet with cut and presence.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard is dark and brooding in feel. Black cherry, plum, new leather, spice and espresso are front and center. Here, the fruit profile leans toward the darker end of the spectrum, and the oak imprint is quite a bit stronger. Rough, angular contours on the finish need time to meld together, but there is good substance throughout."

"Classic scents of cassis and pencil shavings mark the nose of Snowden's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard, which also includes 1% Petit Verdot. Despite being labeled at 15% alcohol, it comes across as balanced and well-proportioned, with ripe—but not overripe—flavors and tannins, a smooth, velvety mouthfeel and a lush, lingering finish. It's even reasonably priced by Napa Cab standards." —Joe Czerwinski

"A fruit-driven, polished style, but without being bombastic, as red currant and black cherry fruit flavors lead off and then meld seamlessly with singed cedar, vanilla and tobacco hints, which gain more prominence through the finish. Should age nicely. Drink now through 2036. 332 cases made."

More about Snowden Vineyards

The land that is now Snowden Vineyards was first planted to grapes (mostly zinfandel) back in the 1880’s. In 1955 the Snowden family purchased the land and since then they have returned much of the 160 acres to a forest preserve. But they continue to farm 23 acres of mostly Cabernet and Merlot with the utmost care and respect. This is true mountain fruit, located right at the border of the St. Helena and Rutherford AVA’s.

The wines are made by a 3rd generation Snowden, Diana, who also is intimately involved in the winemaking at her husband’s estate in Burgundy: Domaine Dujac. That’s right, Diana Snowden-Seysses is married to Jeremy Seysses and together they help produce some of the world’s most sought after Pinot Noir. Turns out they also make extremely good, and very classic, Napa Valley Cabernet and Merlot.
