St. Innocent Willamette Valley Pinot Blanc Freedom Hill Vineyard 2023

$2999

Mark Vlossak named his winery for his father, John Innocent Vlossak, a wine importer who started pouring him tastes at the age of seven. He has been making Pinot Blanc from Freedom Hill since 1997, a small block on the marine sedimentary slopes of the Mt. Pisgah AVA, where an ancient uplifted seabed does most of the heavy lifting. Fermented in a mix of barrel and stainless steel and aged eight months on its lees, this is a white built on texture and salinity rather than fruit-salad flash. Pinot Blanc is Oregon's most overlooked white, and this is the bottle that explains why it should not be.

"The 2023 Pinot Blanc Freedom Hill Vineyard wafts with a nuanced blend of dried flowers, nectarines and wet stones. It is round and soothingly pliant, with ripe orchard fruits offset by a distinct saline tinge. A bump of fresh acidity maintains energy as the 2023 leaves a citrusy resonance through the medium-length finish." —Eric Guido
