Trail Marker Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2023

$2999

Drew Huffine and Emily Virgil started Trail Marker in 2012 with a goal of making cool-climate California wines in a quieter, old-world register — high acid, modest alcohol, fruit allowed to speak. The Santa Cruz Mountains, with their fog, elevation, and patchwork of family-farmed vineyards, are perfect for it. This Pinot Noir is fragrant, lifted, and decidedly un-Californian in a good way: it's the kind of Pinot that asks for a second pour rather than announcing itself across the room.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains) is another hugely promising wine from Drew Huffine and Trail Marker. Pliant, open-knit and expressive, the 2023 is sublime. Cinnamon, orange peel, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco all grace this inviting Pinot Noir. The slightly riper style here vis-à-vis prior vintages is very well judged." —Antonio Galloni

More about Trail Marker

Trail Marker is another one of our fabulous new California discoveries. A tiny production, craft winery that sources fruit from small, responsibly farmed and passionately cared for vineyards from Mendocino to Santa Ynez. Run by husband and wife duo Drew and Emily, their winemaking style allows them to make wines that are juicy, high acid, low alcohol — well balanced expressions of these excellent vineyards. From native Austrian varietals such as Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt to Chardonnay and Pinot, all of their wines are delicious and expressive!
