Trail Marker Sonoma Gamay Bay Tree Lane Vineyards 2023

$2999

Gamay is still a rarity in California, which makes a wine like this — Trail Marker's Bay Tree Lane Vineyard bottling from Sonoma — feel like a small treasure. Drew Huffine and Emily Virgil farm with restraint and ferment with a light hand, letting the grape's natural translucence and lift come through. It drinks like a high-toned cru Beaujolais transplanted to California: pale, perfumed, crunchy with red fruit, and built more for the lunch table than the steakhouse. Tiny production.

Antonio Galloni

93 points

"The 2023 Gamay Noir Bay Tree Lane Vineyard is redolent of black cherry, new leather, sage, menthol, licorice and dark spice. Rich and layered, with notable textural intensity, the 2023 has a lot to offer. The 100% stems are very nicely integrated. Vinification is similar to a lighter-extraction Pinot." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

91 points

"The 2023 Gamay Noir Bay Tree Lane leads with a classic, varietal nose of crunchy, high-toned fruits, dried herbs and spices with a touch of reduction. The palate is spongy and succulent, closing with a mouthwatering, delicate finish that lingers with a touch of earthiness." —Matthew Luczy

More about Trail Marker

Trail Marker is another one of our fabulous new California discoveries. A tiny production, craft winery that sources fruit from small, responsibly farmed and passionately cared for vineyards from Mendocino to Santa Ynez. Run by husband and wife duo Drew and Emily, their winemaking style allows them to make wines that are juicy, high acid, low alcohol — well balanced expressions of these excellent vineyards. From native Austrian varietals such as Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt to Chardonnay and Pinot, all of their wines are delicious and expressive!
