Domaine Denis Bachelet’s 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Évocelles comes from old vines on clay-limestone soils. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged in mostly neutral oak, emphasizing purity and site expression.

It delivers bright red fruit, spice, and mineral notes with fine tannins and fresh acidity. A refined, structured Pinot Noir with classic Gevrey depth and aging potential.

Modest - even humble - Denis Bachelet has been working at the family domaine all his life - his first vintage was in 1982. The farming is meticulous, the vines are ancient and the yields are very low. Every single grape is scrutinized. They have striking purity regardless of appellation and can age for a decade or more.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

"Smoky floral and essence of pear aromas are trimmed in discreet spice and citrus wisps. There is better mid-palate density to the vibrant and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly better depth and persistence on the firm, well-balanced and lightly austere finale. This seemingly always boxes above its weight and it has done so again in 2022."

"The 2022 Meursault Clos-de-la-Barre has a backward nose that, despite coaxing, doesn't come out to "play." The palate is well-balanced with notes of tangerine and sour lemon, quite spicy towards the finish with satisfying length. The aromatics will require two or three years to step up a gear." -Neal Martin

"The 2022 Meursault Clos de la Barre has turned out very well in bottle, delivering an attractive bouquet of pear, citrus oil, freshly baked bread and toasted hazelnuts, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive palate, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. Along with the terrific 2020, this gets my nod as the finest Clos de le Barre in recent years." -William Kelley

"Lafon’s holding in Clos de la Barre, in the centre of Meursault, produced over 45 barrels in 2022. The wine has a marvellous equilibrium between richness and tension, with high-toned aromas of lemon peel, green apple, hawthorn blossom and spice. There is both lively acidity and a pleasantly plump feel on the palate. The old vines planted in relatively thin soils over the hard limestone base make this a truly special site that consistently delivers."
