Domaine de Montille Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts Cuvee Christiane 2010 [NET]

$79999

The flagship red of the house and one of the most coveted bottles in Vosne-Romanee, the Cuvee Christiane comes from a single parcel within Les Malconsorts that sits across a path from the rest of the climat, bordered on the north and west by La Tache itself. The vines were planted in 1953, making them among the oldest in Vosne. Etienne bottles this fruit separately as a tribute to his late mother Christiane. The 2010 was built on a famously firm tannic frame and 100% whole-cluster vinification, and it needed close to two decades to come into its own. Now in its mature window, displaying the dark fruit, spice and minerality the parcel is known for, with the tertiary depth that only patience brings. Drink now through 2040.

"This is compositionally similar to the regular cuvée except that here there are even more spice elements in play. The powerful, long and very serious flavors are built on a base of minerality and while the supporting tannins are just as firm, they are finer; indeed the overall mouth feel is more refined before finally culminating in a balanced, pure and Zen-like finish. Superb."

"The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Malconsorts Christiane is made from a tiny part of the Malconsorts vineyard that sits within La Tache. The 2010 Christiane flows from the glass with a rich, exotic tapestry of dazzling fruit, black cherries, violets, licorice, spices and hard candy. White flowers add lift and sweet perfume on the breathtakingly beautiful finish. The integration of fruit and structure is virtually seamless. In other words, everything is in perfect balance. Readers who can find the Christiane should not hesitate. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage." —Antonio Galloni

More about Domaine de Montille

The 17th Century Chateau named for this world-famous Chardonnay producing village has changed hands many times during its history. In 2001 the owners hired Etienne de Montille, son of famous Côte-de-Beaune wine maker Hubert Montille, to take over farming and production. He immediately instituted changes in the vineyards and cellar and began turning "good" wines in to great ones.

In 2012 Etienne and his sister Alix (a star winemaker too) purchased the property so it is now officially in the Montille Family of wines. It's a perfect marriage of an iconic estate to a renowned and highly pedigreed family domaine. Indeed the name "Montille" is itself an iconic brand in Burgundy now.

Why? What’s so great about the de Montille wines? Everything. Attention to every detail: in the farming, the winemaking, even the corks they use. They are biodynamic, which works particularly well in a clos with no neighbors to spray chemicals on nearby rows. They harvest by hand, age in a mix of woods, and manage to make all the tiny little choices that individually are hard to identify as so important but that, aggregated, are what make great wines great.
