Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 2022 [NET]

$68999

Les Pucelles is Domaine Leflaive's historic flagship premier cru — the parcel pressed against the wall of Bâtard-Montrachet, just below Le Montrachet itself, and the wine on which the family built its name. 2022 was the warm-but-rescued vintage: a hot, dry summer cut by timely June rain that produced ripe, concentrated whites with surprisingly graceful acidity. Where the 2020 Pucelles is the dense, saline classic, the 2022 is the more generous, perfumed expression — ripe yellow fruit, floral lift, and that unmistakable Leflaive cut underneath. Pucelles always blurs the line with grand cru; this vintage makes you feel it sooner.

"From two very large parcels of vines totaling over 3 ha. Here too the nose is cool and restrained with a discreet application of wood framing the beautifully layered aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, citrus confit, spice and a variety of floral nuances and in particular, acacia blossom. The refined and strikingly textured medium weight flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration before terminating in a highly persistent, impeccably well-balanced and markedly dry, but not really austere, finale. This beauty is quite understated with the requisite balance and underlying material to reward long-term keeping. In short, this is potentially brilliant."

"The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles from Domaine Leflaive is young and tightly wound. There’s terrific palate density, along with the classic Leflaive reductive notes, all of which suggest brilliant drinking ahead. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon." —Antonio Galloni

"The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles reasserts its traditional role as Leflaive's dominant premier cru this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, clear honey, white flowers and orange oil, framed by a deft touch of youthful reduction. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's pure and enveloping, with a sweet core of fruit, lively acids and a long, precise finish." —William Kelley

"Ethereal aromas and flavors of white flowers, lemon and apple grace this charming, fluid white, which picks up a stony mineral element as it plays out effortlessly on the long aftertaste, showing terrific harmony. Drink now through 2030." —Bruce Sanderson

More about Domaine Leflaive

There are many outstanding producers of white Burgundy. When it comes to Puligny Montrachet one name is at the pinnacle - Domaine Leflaive. For many generations of the family and of Burgundy lovers they have been the one you want in your cellar. These are some of the most consistent and long lived white Burgundies from the Bourgogne Blanc, to the Puligny Montrachet, to the premier and grand crus. These are wines you can cellar for many years with complete confidence.

Anne-Claude Leflaive and her right-hand man Pierre Morey were pioneers of biodynamic farming. After seven years of experiments while the property was two-thirds organic and one third biodynamic, all of the vineyards were converted to biodynamic in 1997.

The farming is immaculate, there are constant improvements of the pruning, composting and cultivation of cover crops. Most of the vines were planted in the 1950's and 1980's, the vines are mature. The cellar work is slow and measured, the wines rest for at least two winters in their cold cellars, first in barrel, then in stainless steel tanks for the second winter. There is a maximum of 20% new oak for the premier crus. They are always working to make even greater wines.
