Domaine Roulot Meursault Luchets 2020 [NET]

$47999

Luchets sits at the northern edge of Meursault, up around 280 meters of altitude on limestone, and the elevation translates to crisper, more vertical wines than the southern lieux-dits. Jean-Marc Roulot has called this parcel a favorite, and you can taste why: there's a coolness to the fruit, a stony, almost flinty grip on the finish, and a sense of nervous energy that makes it feel younger than its peers. 2020 added a touch of ripeness and flesh to that frame, making this an unusually balanced bottling - racy, mineral, but with enough fruit to drink in its youth.

"This was also on its fining material and was similarly reduced. By contrast, the notably finer middle weight flavors also possess excellent levels of volume and dry extract before culminating in an unusually powerful, youthfully austere and sneaky long finish that is more tightly wound. Like the Vireuils, this is terrific."

"The 2020 Meursault Luchets shows the more extroverted style of the year nicely. Creamy and beautifully layered, the Luchets is redolent of pear, apricot, dried flowers, chamomile and mint that envelop the palate effortlessly. The Luchets is so inviting, even in the very early going. A burst of mineral and stony notes lend freshness on the close. The 2020 is impressive and so promising." —Neal Martin

"A particular highlight this year is the 2020 Meursault Luchets, a beautifully balanced wine that wafts from the glass with notions of citrus oil, white flowers, nougat and orange oil. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's deep and tightly wound, with an intensely mineral profile." —William Kelley

More about Domaine Roulot

The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his father's success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.
