Think of Acolytes as the front door to Our Lady of Guadalupe: a Pinot Noir blended from premier vineyards across Santa Barbara County, made to introduce you to the region (and eventually to the estate wines) at a friendlier price than the OLG bottlings. The house belongs to Dave Phinney, who started out with two tons of Zinfandel in 1997. Our Lady of Guadalupe, on the windy, foggy western edge of Sta. Rita Hills, is the only project in the United States where he makes wine from a vineyard he owns. Acolytes isn't estate fruit alone, and that's the point. 2024 is only its second vintage, and more source vineyards went into it this year, so it speaks for the whole county rather than a single site. It spent 15 months in French oak and sits at 14.5%, but bright acidity runs all the way through and keeps it lively rather than heavy. If you've been curious about Santa Barbara Pinot, this is an easy, honest place to start.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Seared duck breast with a pomegranate glaze; cedar-plank salmon with sautéed mushrooms; herb-roasted pork tenderloin with bay leaf; wild mushroom risotto; grilled quail with a cherry reduction.

Tasting Profile

Black cherry, raspberry bramble and wild strawberry on the nose, with notes of bay leaf and potting soil. Red and blue fruit on the palate, with soft tannins and bright acidity throughout. The finish brings a bitter-herbal amaro note and pomegranate.
