Jacques Carillon farms just 0.12 hectares of Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. That's barely a tenth of a hectare of grand cru, so very little of this wine exists. The vines average 55 years, and the farming is close to organic: no herbicides, soil worked by plough and by hand, and short pruning with severe debudding to keep yields low. Carillons have been documented in Puligny since 1520, and Jacques has run his own 5.5 hectares since the family domaine was divided between him and his brother François, starting with the 2010 vintage. 2024 was one of the hardest growing seasons in recent Burgundian memory, with a wet spring, relentless downy mildew and a very small crop. This is one to put away.

More about Domaine Jacques Carillon

The name of Carillon is now synonymous with the best of Puligny-Montrachet. Louis Carillon continued his family’s centuries long tradition of producing excellent wines that focus on the taut minerality of Chardonnay from this famous village. In 2010 the estate was split between the brothers Jacque and François.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Butter-poached lobster with beurre blanc; roast turbot or halibut in a cream sauce; Bresse chicken with morels and vin jaune cream; scallops seared in brown butter; a wedge of aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Puligny grand cru profile: ripe citrus, white peach and hazelnut over a chalky, stony minerality, with a dense, layered texture held taut by bright acidity. Carillon's style typically leans focused and precise rather than buttery, and the finish is long and dry. Built to age, it rewards patience in the cellar.
